I know this is long, but please take the time to read it!
I write to you again to let you know what's all happened since my last entry. I've spent almost 4 years here at The Peachtree University for the Gifted. I'll remind you that the word "gifted" here is used loosely. Sure, it may be called that, but I've come to believe that it might just be a curse put on us by pure bad luck. Although it may just be me, and my imagining things, but there's been too many close calls and coincidence's to count and I can't help feeling something wrong is going on here. It may be something evil or just something not done right, I've no clue. So many younger people have been coming in the the university, some as young as fifteen! Can you believe it? Children at an university! You would think that people might become suspicious, but alas, our world is starting to rot...
What you've just read is part of an entry in a students journal. Kathy Morgan, a twenty-two year old at the time this was written, had been chosen to attend Peachtree University, in London. Peachtree does not accept applications, but comes to the individual they would like to bring to the university, at no cost to them, but to commit five years of their life to the school. See, Peachtree is not an ordinary school, it is a school for the gifted. The word Gifted isn't what you'd think. It is not a 'magic' type of gifted, but it is in a super natural category. See, a group of scientists had discovered that some minors have evolved to a point where their DNA is unnatural. The scientists were thought to be crazy, when they asked receive funds for a school; except one man. He had money and that was all the scientists cared about, so they built the school. It took 8 years to do so, and in 2000 the first batch of students, all 18, were asked to attend and many accepted, including Kathy Morgan. Two scientists, Emily Griffon, and Timothy West, had come up with a formula to enhance the students DNA, and received shocking results.
Most of the students, after an hour or so, were greeted with a creature which never left their side. They were almost ghost-like, see through when they first came out of the student, slowly becoming solid after a year. Although Kathy Morgan did not receive a creature. The students were freaked out when they first came, Emily explained her theory to her co-worker and the students involved. She believed the animal type creatures came from within the students, and the formula was responsible. She also observed that the animal best described it's humans personality. She concluded that the formula just merely encouraged the creatures to come out, and that they would've come out of the students when they were about 40. This was just the beginning of the events, and that more was most likely to come from the later generations. Since then more minors came pouring in, excited about what was happening, and wanted to gain more knowledge. The students gave the creatures a name, 'Familiars', as well as a personal name for their own Familiar. But so far, nobody could explain why Kathy alone did not receive one. They kept her at the school however, probably curious to see what might happen.
Halfway through 2004, the school brought in younger students. They discovered that their Familiars were smaller then the 18-year-olds and came to believe that the creatures grew with their human. Emily and Timothy were trying to improve their formula, and selected some students to try it out. They assured the students that nothing would happen, and it wouldn't hurt a bit, except for the needle. With the first test, nothing different happened to the student. The second test, Kathy Morgan had volunteered, and then something horrible happened. She died. They kept the death quiet, but Emily couldn't sleep for weeks after it. Timothy tried to persuaded Emily to do the last test and after much resiting, she agreed. Everyone held their breath as they waited for a result. The creature came out, as normal, but they discovered that this Familiar could speak! They shocked many with this discovery, and since then they have used the formula on every student that has come in.
It is now 2008, and changes are being made. They still use that beloved formula on every student, but now they have a full staff educated on the history of the Familiars and School. Emily Griffon's daughter had volunteered, in 2005, when she was 17, to be tested on. Emily refused at first, but her daughter, Lisa, was persistent and Emily gave in. So scientists studied her, and her Familiar, an Owl, and fed all the information to future teachers for the school. Emily retired from her post as a scientist, and picked up the role as some kind of principal so to speak. Now they have classes for everything; History of the Gifted, Science of Familiars, How to Treat Your Familiar, History of the School and classes for those who'd like to join the staff after graduation. They even have a 5 star restaurant Cafeteria staff, and have full course meals. Along with the classes, they also have electives, for those who want to learn more in other areas then the school. All these changes were suggested by the man who pays for everything. He has been known by the students as Edward, the nicest man alive. He visits frequently, and shows the most interest in the top students. Some say that he's trying to recruit them for something, but nobody knows for sure, except the ones who get the attention from him.
So, I hear you've been asked to attend the school. Lucky you. Will you accept? If you did, what would you want to gain from it? Just want your own Familiar, or to get away from home? Or do you want to actually do something that matters with your life? Take your pick, it's your choice.
